Overview:

RSCF is seeking an experienced, dedicated Animal Care Specialist to join our animal care team. This role provides direct daily care for a diverse collection of endangered species, including parrots, primates, and African hoofstock, contributing directly to the survival and propagation of species on the brink of extinction.

Responsibilities:

• Provide daily husbandry, feeding, and enrichment for parrots, primates, and African hoofstock

• Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting concerns promptly to veterinary and supervisory staff

• Maintain clean, safe, and species-appropriate habitats

• Assist with breeding program protocols and record-keeping

• Perform facility maintenance related to animal enclosures and grounds

• Work safely and effectively as part of a small, dedicated care team

Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years of experience working in a zoological, conservatory, or accredited wildlife facility required

• Demonstrated hands-on experience with parrots, primates, and African hoofstock required

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

• Availability to work a 40-hour week, including weekends and holidays

• Strong work ethic, physical stamina, and a team-oriented mindset

• Florida resident preferred

The Rare Species Conservatory Foundation (RSCF) is a 501(c)(3) wildlife conservation nonprofit based on a 30-acre campus in Loxahatchee, Florida. For decades, RSCF has worked at the intersection of breeding science, field conservation, and public education to protect some of the world's most endangered species, including mountain bongo, lion tamarins, pygmy marmosets, and red-browed Amazon parrots.

Our team manages active breeding and repatriation programs that have returned dozens of animals to native habitats in Africa, sustains one of the only self-sustaining pygmy marmoset colonies in the country, and partners with international zoos, government agencies, and field conservation organizations across South America, Africa, and the Caribbean. RSCF holds a Candid Gold Seal of Transparency and is recognized for hands-on, science-driven conservation work that goes well beyond a typical zoo or sanctuary setting.
